Her Story. A series of blog posts telling the stories of 'women who ride' from all corners of the globe. We hope that by sharing these stories we can help encourage other women to build their confidence, learn from others and inspire others.
This month we have a story from Célia Remédios from Lisbon, Portugal AKA Lita Letal. Proud member of the Litas Portugal and avid offroader. "Face your fears in your own time, establish your limits and find a way through it! Don't ever let your age, body or gender restrain you."
We hope you enjoy her story.

"Hi Moto Femmes from all over the world! I’m Célia, I'm 36, born and raised in Lisbon (Portugal), I ride a Kawasaki en500 and this is my story.
My love for bikes started with my grandpa from Azores. He rode a Famel Zundapp 48cc with the most awesome red helmet with a checkered stripe (which by the way didn’t fit his head) and me, my brother and our older cousin just had a blast riding that noisy and smoky "made in Portugal" bike. I was about 5 years old. We were in the 80’s, during the summer vacations in Azores, and I met my American cousins. They were in their 20’s, they had tattoos and they rode bikes and I just wanted to be like those guys!
Later in the 90’s thanks to my Portuguese-Canadian cousin I had contact with the most popular bike show we have in Portugal (Faro, Algarve – in the south of Portugal). He had a chopper, a snack-bar, and lots of friends with big bikes got together there. All that noise was music for my ears!
So of course I wanted a bike, but my father got me and my brother a Yamaha Target scooter (boring!). That was enough to learn the first steps but I wanted more.
I became the happiest girl when I turned 16 and my parents birthday present was a Yamaha DTLC 50cc! Yeah! And boy, that bike made lots of kms!! A boy from school had the same bike and started to ride along with me and got me into motocross, and I loved it! Still do! It was so funny because we didn’t knew each other in the beginning, we just started to ride along together and a few days later we were riding and going out together almost everyday.
Yep, he was my first crush... and my first crash! I had a serious accident returning from the beach! Luckily he was behind me riding his bike and took care of everything (what a better way to meet my father!) The next year I fell with my scooter and my father forced me to take my driver’s license - car of course... and that was the end of it.
I was really afraid to ride my bike and time passed, until my father asked me what we should do to that bike and something reminded me enough time had passed and I should go for it again. We sold that 50cc and, 33 years old, I went for my kiddo memories: got my chopper Kawasaki en500 and I’m (slowly) customising it.
I got really into it and I wanted more badass females riding along with me so in October 2016 I opened the first branch of the international female riding group The Litas (The Litas Lisbon) in Portugal, with my friends Inês and Margarida.
Along with it I’m having great experiences I never thought I would at this age! I was invited to go for a BMW Motorrad Circuit experience with a F800R and this was HUGE for me for so many reasons but mainly because I'm less than 5 feet tall and someone had to hold the bike for me at the start and at the end of it! I was scared and trembling, but I went for it anyway! It was a dream come true!
The same day me and my friends Fabiana and Susana drove 400km heading to the north of Portugal for a weekend enduro intensive course with the Portuguese Dakar representative, Pedro Bianchi Prata. In the end, we were dead tired but we learned a lot! And I was doing what I love the most: offroad! Now I’m just enjoying the best of riding with only a few friends, trying to do some stunts, just for the fun of it.
Life is short, don’t waste it! My advice for the ladies? Face your fears in your own time, establish your limits and find a way through it! Don't ever let your age, body or gender restrain you. Dream and conquer and do it all with a smile! Be happy! And enjoy!"
