Her Story. A series of blog posts telling the stories of 'women who ride' from all corners of the globe. We hope that by sharing these stories we can help encourage other women to build their confidence, learn from others and inspire others.
This month we have a story from Anjaly from India living in Dubai. Anjaly has always had support from her husband and parents from a young age so she decided to start up a platform for women of all ages to learn how to ride, including her mum!
We hope you enjoy her story.
My name is Anjaly Rajan, 30 years and living in Dubai, UAE.
I started riding at the age of 15, learnt from a friend to ride a 125cc motorcycle.
15 years ago, I felt motorcycling was one of the most adventurous activity that a female can do in my home country India. I was very keen on two wheels from a very young age. I start riding a bike from the age of 5 and then when I was 8, my mother taught me how to ride a scooter.
I ride a Suzuki Intruder V800, Harley Davidson Super Low, Bajaj Avenger 220 cc.
Riding a motorcycle has impacted my life in a very positive way.
- Helped me to be more confident in dealing with problems
- Helped me be comfortable starting a conversation with any gender
- Always felt a sense of accomplishment in terms of adventure activities
- Motorcycling has helped me to become an open minded person
Since my family motivates me to follow my passion, it was very important for me to ride safely. Also, felt I had a share towards the community to inspire other females to follow motorcycling. Hence, I started a platform 7 years ago back in India, it's called the Riderni, teaching women how to ride a motorcycle. We have taught almost 50 women to ride motorcycles ranging in ages from 18 to 45 including my own mother.
Advice for women looking to start riding:
Ride Safe. Always wear proper riding gear from head to toe.
Know your motorcycle, its power, speed limit, fuel range and tyre pressure.
